When you log on to Gmail there’s a new story feature called “The Story of Send” displaying and cute animation showing what goes into sending an email through the lines and through Google’s data centers. However there’s one thing that just bothers me. Knowing that there are plenty of resources on how much companies have spent on email services but what are the hidden costs of sending an email through them. I mean is there any resource out there that can break down:
- The cost of the infrastructure the ISP’s set up to send your email through
- The employees who are hired to maintain and protect your data
- The security staff who protects the building from unwanted intruders
And all the little costs that you never see and how theoretically how much it really costs a user to send that email to your colleagues.
